It can feel extremely scary and overwhelming to start talking about your struggles with food and your body. Perhaps you have had the same eating habits for many years, and it’s hard to imagine life being any different. Or perhaps you feel ambivalent about making any changes, but your family has been worried about you and they want you to talk with someone who can help. In my 5 years of experience working with patients at all levels of care at Eating Recovery Center, a world-renown hospital in Denver, Colorado, I have worked with clients who desperately want to change their relationship with food and their body, and also clients who had no interest in treatment. I have supported hundreds of men, women, and their families on the path to wellness, and I understand the many challenges that come up for people as they start to address their relationship with food and/or their body. I believe that struggling with food or your body image is like the visible part of an iceberg; there is so much more to that struggle than anyone else can know. Paradoxically, the struggles you face both are – and are not – about the food. No matter where you are at in your journey, or how mild or severe your struggles, I can support you in understanding the real roots of your issues with food and body image, and to move toward a more fulfilling, meaningful experience of living. I am also available to support family members and friends of those struggling via individual therapy combined with psychoeducation about the nature of Eating Disorders.
